I get asked almost everyday, “What’s it like being a cleaning lady?” “Do you like it?” Of coarse there is a whole long list of things we get asked, and to answer them would go something like this…
When we started our cleaning business almost a year ago now, I would have never imagined how much life we would actually live and experience!
We have made, I can’t even begin to tell you how many wrong turns trying to find a home, and had only driven past the right one fifty times before findiyng it! Bought and broken so many mops it’s unreal! I can probably tell you every brand of cleaning supplies, sheets and toilet paper there is. We have almost had 365 mornings that started at 4A.M. We Ran for our lives from a spider hoping no one caught that on the ring doorbell. I’ve been scared for my life almost every time mom drives the van! Lol. We’ve pushed ourselves way past our limits for a day and still kept going. I’ve bought enough vacuums to have cleaned all the carpet in Texas. I’ve also broken most of them and thank goodness for YouTube, I now know how to take them apart and put them back together. We have washed so many towels and mop pads its unreal. We have been poured down rain on and had wet clothes all day. Do you know how hard it is to clean a house and get out successfully in the rain without making a huge mess?! It’s hard. We have gotten jobs we never thought we could handle, and killed it every time. We’ve over booked ourselves on accident and still pulled it off gracefully. We’ve also had so many cancel on us it was scary at times. But through all the crazy times and long days we have gotten to know so many amazing people, that have allowed us to be a part of their lives. We have been through welcoming new baby’s to a family, to watching someone’s baby graduate and leaving for college. Death and grieving loved ones. People getting ready for marriages or engagement parties at their home and rushing trying to get everything perfect! Divorce and watching relationships change over time. We have seen the impact life takes on kids and how much God truly takes care of the littles. New pets, and by that I mean all kind of pets! I’ve chased after several runaway pets this year to, Loosing pets. Being diagnosed with an impossible illness or condition. Surgeries and recoveries. Dementia and watching people forget the people that love them. A lot of praying with people and for people. COVID. Remodeling homes, rearranging and color changes. People selling and buying new homes. New jobs and hobbies. We have also learned every type of pet peeve there could ever be in the world! All of the holidays, different decorating styles, beliefs and values. Single parents trying to do everything themselves.
We have seen so much stress and worry over things that in the end don’t really matter. Looking back on our first year I am truly amazed at the impact being a “cleaning lady” has had on my life. If I had to do it all over again, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
So to answer the question… it is an absolute crazy ride every single day and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
